Don’t risk injury or arrest by peeking in windows of listed properties.
“Oh Honey, Stop the Car, there is a real estate sign in that yard and the house looks adorable! Let’s go peek in the windows!”
A Real Estate sign in a yard is not an invitation to trespass on someone’s property. The people who owns the property may want to sell the home, but that is not an open invitation to go on to the property without permission and peek in windows. You need to be accompanied by a Real Estate agent to gain access to the home. Entering a piece of property without permission is trespassing. Trespassing by any definition is illegal and you could be charged with a crime if you are caught.
You might think, well no one is there, who will know? That is not necessarily true. Remember there are neighbors who may be watching that home for the sellers. It may look like no one is home, but you don’t know that is the case. Maybe the seller only has one car and one of the owners are out and about. Peeking in a window could trigger an unwanted response. In today’s day and age, people are wary of strangers to begin with, and they might greet you with a firearm or a baseball bat.
Think of it this way, how would you feel if you were sitting at the table in your bathrobe & fuzzy slippers having your morning coffee, and you look up to see someone peeking in the window at you? I am sure you wouldn’t like it and would feel threatened. When you enter a property without permission you are risking a great deal. Are you willing to risk arrest or injury going on the property unaccompanied?
You need an agent. If you see a property you want more information about, call an agent. They can make the necessary arrangements to get you in to view the property without the risk you take going on to the property without permission or unaccompanied.
We live in a “Do It Yourself” world, but buying a property without the benefit of representation is not in your best interest. A buyer’s agent can help in many ways.
